Initiated in late 2021 following FPL transmission assessment studies and continued load growth across its service territory, the SR 70 and SR 80 programs represent a major, multi-year expansion of Florida’s bulk-power transmission infrastructure. The work includes installing new transmission lines, rebuilding and reconductoring existing lines, and completing upgrades across multiple substations. The programs are designed to establish additional east-to-west transmission paths, increase circuit ampacity and power-transfer capability, accommodate future generation and load growth, and strengthen overall system performance. The resulting hardened and resilient 230 kV circuits are intended to relieve potential overloads, reduce loading on existing transmission assets, and improve reliability and voltage conditions during contingency events. The SR 70 project also forms part of the FPSC-approved Sweatt-Whidden transmission line program. Across multiple work releases, BIC has provided an integrated combination of project coordination and scheduling, engineering, field construction, fiber and communications services, and substation testing and commissioning for both greenfield and brownfield facilities. BIC’s multidisciplinary teams have coordinated technical interfaces and complex project sequencing across active and newly constructed infrastructure, supporting commissioning readiness, system cutovers and reliable energization.
